Online Photography Portfolios
Free online portfolios are commonplace on various site on the Internet.
But, how will you use your portfolio? There is a new way of doing business for Photographers. Photographers should encorporate videos into their portfolio - and not only still photos. Why? Although you may prefer to shoot still photos, many photographers adopting video as a new medium because of the potential revenue available through Youtube and less and less revenue available through still photography. Unfortunately, the days of photographers commanding high dollars for "shooting pictures" are gone. Times change. However, Youtube has a advertising revenue sharing program. Upload successful videos that garner many views, and you will begin receiving checks from Youtube.
Because of these revenue disruptions, the world is moving toward online video. Surprisingly, decent quality videos are increasingly easy to make.
Successful videos do not need to be complicated. A well-lit video, shot with a tripod, is all that is needed for online-videos these days. Check out our guide on how to create an online video.
Rule of Thumb
Limit the number of photos you upload to your portfolio to 8 of your best photos and 8 of your best videos. This is because time and time again has proven that artists are only as good as their weakest photo or video. So, be choosey and only upload your best work, not every work you have ever made - good and bad. You are judged by your least quality work. For decisions on which photos to include in your portfoilio, we encourage you to pick up a copy of the book, A Step-by-Step Guide for Professional Model Portfolios for Photographers. It will tell you everything you need to have a diversified set of standout images that will "sell" you well.
